Acknowledging Trauma from Past Lives
Past life trauma is the understanding that negative experiences from a previous life can impact your current life. The idea is rooted in spiritual and metaphysical beliefs, and many people believe in its validity. As our souls reincarnate, the experiences and emotions from past lives can carry over into our current life. These experiences were most times very traumatic and created a vibrational hold or energetic blueprint on the soul.
Are you haunted by the known or hidden memories of past experiences in this life? Deep-rooted traumas from past lives can also cast a long shadow over your current existence.
When the same type of trauma is experienced in more than one lifetime, past life scars often become amplified, and, subsequently, with each repetitive experience, the symptoms of Past Life Traumatic Stress Disorder intensify.
Many people use ancient wisdom, guided meditations, and metaphysical techniques to uncover the hidden wounds that continue to shape their reality.
The first step in healing past life trauma is acknowledging its existence. Take time to reflect on your thoughts and emotions and try to identify any patterns or recurring themes. Write down your experiences and emotions and connect them to past life experiences that may have caused them.
As a child I just couldn’t get the hang of swimming. We lived in a town that had a small lake nearby that everyone came to during the summer. Friends of ours owned the property and created an area that they sold summer passes to. Nothing special but the only game in town.
It was a large, natural pond kind of thing with two floating rafts tied down midway into it. Dad could swim out and meet friends there. Me, I was scared.
My folks made me take swim lessons with other kids my age from school. I just could not put my face into the water. The instructors showed us how we could move our heads in and out of the water. Close your mouth - in water. Open your mouth to breathe - out of water. But I couldn’t get it coordinated.
As a last resort, they taught us all how to float on our backs. That I could do! But as soon as they told us to flip over and swim back to shore - nope.
One afternoon I went to the lake with dad. He picked me up, carried me out in the water about up to his chest. And threw me in. In his experience I guess, if you fell in the water, you’d instinctively swim. Well, not me. I sank straight to the bottom!
After that ordeal, I panicked in water that was higher than my waist. As soon as it got to my chest, I hyperventilated. As I got into my teen years, friends and my younger sisters all went to a new pool that was opened. Music playing, lots of people we knew and - water. I guess I was only there for the sun. My sisters took swim classes there and my best friend swam so well, she got the job of lifeguard.
Me? Fear stricken, not knowing why and tried to enjoy myself in the water. Everyone else naturally enjoyed themselves. But it was a real chore for me.
As I got into adulthood, I was not required to be around water. But if someone jokingly flicked water in my face, I went off screaming and breathing hard. Like I couldn’t breathe.
Over time, I had a dream about being drowned in a small creek by an older brother that thought I had witnessed something he did. He just held my head in the water until I died.
Several years later, I experimented with past life regressions a few times. At least two of them had to do with me drowning in water.
Then my husband and I went to see a movie.
It was called Amistad. (In 1839, the revolt of Mende captives aboard a Spanish owned ship causes a major controversy in the United States when the ship is captured off the coast of Long Island. The courts must decide whether the Mende are slaves or legally free.) During the movie, there was a point where slaves were thrown overboard. with chains and shackles still on, because the ship cargo exceeded the legal weight limit. - Yes, the slaves were considered cargo. And it was a very graphic and emotional scene, showing how the people drowned in the ocean.
Audience members in the theater started screaming at the horror of it. But I was screaming louder than everyone. In that moment, I realized that I had been a captain of a ship, very similar to the Amistad. Not that actual ship, but one in which I (as captain) ordered slaves to be thrown into the sea. The realization that I, in another life, could possibly do such a thing, was horrifying to me.
I suppose there have been many experiences in my pervious lives that have contributed to my reaction to water. And I can now honor each one. I know that I am not that captain this time around or a victim of drowning, but those experiences aided in my understanding of Life, Here and Now.
Could You Be Experiencing Past Life Trauma?
Here are some common signs that can help you identify past life trauma.
Unexplained fears or phobias.
Recurring nightmares or dreams.
Intense emotional reactions to certain situations.
Feeling a strong connection or aversion to a certain historical period or culture.
Feeling a sense of Deja vu or familiarity with a place or person you’ve never met before.
If you were ever accused of being a witch or burned at the stake for possessing psychic powers, you could have an irrational fear of sharing your gifts.
There’s a direct link between past life trauma and present-day fears, phobias and panic attacks. If you’re experiencing any of these conditions, you could be suffering from Past Life Traumatic Stress Disorder.
By acknowledging the trauma, releasing negative emotions, connecting with your soul, and practicing self-care, you can begin to heal from past life trauma.

Thank you for sharing Melissa, I can definitely resonate with this. Most of my past life traumas have been linked to my role as a healer and spiritual leader. Still working through them, but getting there one layer at a time. I've been trapped in a well, imprisoned and taken to an asylum against my will. No wonder I don't like being in rooms where I can't see the escape route!
