A Day in the Life of a Spirit Medium and What I Am Reading
Rush from Spirit, his energy was frantic. I got very shaky from it.

A Day in the Life of a Spirit Medium
(This is a true story, but names and places have been changed to guard and protect our friends and community. I never share direct information about a session or connection.)
It was a regular day, or so I thought. I had been working on hemming a skirt for a customer. My sewing alteration business was really taking off and I was in a tizzy getting orders finished. There was another storm brewing and had been raining since the day before.
My husband Charles used a room attached to the shop for reflexology sessions. So, we were sharing that big space.
Charles had been gone for several hours and when he came back in, he had a strange look on his face. The son of one of his friends from the old neighborhood was missing.
The young man (I’ll call him Terry) and three other friends had been going around town helping people get their vehicles out of the road after getting caught in flooded streets. The guys were all high school football players. They started out coming home from visiting someone when they saw a car flooded out in the street. After helping push that car to safety, they decide to keep lending a hand with other unfortunate people that got caught in the surprise downpour.
They were all soaking wet and were out most of the day. Family started to worry about them. And they decided to go home. Since they all lived in different directions, they split up and said goodbye.
Terry never got home. He had been gone for hours after they split up. Someone reported to family that they saw him caught up in some deep waters and losing his footing.
Police were called to search.
Charles said what can we do? How can we help? We both had a sense of dread and worry. It was intense.
He earnestly asked me, “Do you think you can pick up anything to help in the search?”
I hesitated slightly because I knew it meant moving into Terry’s vibration and possibly experiencing pain and fear. I took a deep breath and said Yes.
“But it would help the connection if you can get something of his. A piece of clothing or another item that was only his.” Charles ran out the door to see what he could do.
I started clearing my work. And sitting in meditative state for a while to calm myself. I could not allow my feelings to interfere in the connection.
Charles was not gone long. He ended up at Terry’s home and talked to a relative. They gave him a pair of Terry’s socks. The ones he had taken off during the day because they were squishing around in his shoes.
I cleared my thoughts, called on my spirit guides for assistance, sat in a comfortable chair and Charles handed me the socks. They were still wet! That shocked me for a moment. But perhaps that is what opened me to him.
All of a sudden Terry’s spirit came rushing to me. Swoosh! He had been searching and trying to figure out what had happened. Looking for someone that recognized him and could help. I’ll never forget that feeling of Rush from Spirit.
His energy was frantic. I got very shaky from it. I spoke to him through thoughts. I told him that he was alright now. That I recognized him and could help. He opened to me since he recognized my energies, being InSpirit. Finally, he acknowledged something familiar.
After things relaxed a bit (well, a little bit), I started asking him what had happened? Where was he?
At this point I still was not certain if he was alive, unconscious or dead. I knew that I could connect with the spirit of a living person, and most always from someone who was unconscious or comatose, as well as the spirit of the deceased.
He could not really ‘talk’ to me in words, but managed mental pictures and impressions.
The main sensation I received was confusion. There was swirling and dizziness. More swirling. He really did not understand what was happening. I definitely got the sensation of water movement, the swirling. This was his main concern; he could not understand it. (On a personal note: After several past lives having drowned, I am deathly afraid of water, especially in deep water, so this was especially notable to me.)
I took notes on a pad of paper I had with me. Well, mostly graphics or ideas of what I saw. A large cone of swirls. Then a cage.
I saw a metal cage and got the words ‘Lion’s Cage’. Did not understand what it really was, but it felt very significant. I saw Terry caught in or around a metal cage, struggling. I believe an article of clothing was snagged in it.
At this point, I got up and started pacing. Back and forth, back and forth. Charles had been on the phone in the other room and came back to where I was.
“We have to go - NOW!”
Go where? was his response. “I don’t know, but I have to get in the car. Come on, drive me,” I said running out the door to the elevator. He kept up with me, we went through the main doors of the building, down the sidewalk and got in the Suburban.
I still had the wet socks in my hand. I was still connected with Terry. He directed me this way and that. We were going directly to where he was. Still, I was not sure if he was dead or not.
I was in a semi-trance state. Fully functional but slightly dazed. We were on High Street going East. I directed Charles to turn onto Penn Street hill that went down to Main Street. Terry showed me a bluish vehicle. It served as a marker that we were in the right vicinity.
After passing the blue car, I said to turn around. Go back up the hill (Penn St.). And then turn left.
I felt frantic by this time. It was as if I could not get there fast enough. We turned left and immediately saw emergency vehicles, and police cars, as well as large white vehicles that I was not familiar with. We drove over a small bridge that covered Old Mill Run.
Oh dear.
This was it.
As soon as we got out of the car, we saw Terry’s family. They were hysterical. There also was a television news team and cameraman, trying to interview and film the family.
Charles immediately rushed over to the crew and told them to leave the family alone, that it was intensely personal. He was sure they did not want to be filmed.
To be with Terry’s family and shield them from the news crew was the main reason we were there. I found out that search and rescue divers just found Terry’s body, caught in some kind of metal cage. My understanding is that it was placed there as a means to collect larger pieces of trash or rubbish that could end up flowing in the larger body of water.
Thank goodness Terry was stuck there. (However, these were the moments that he passed away.) With the rushing flow of storm water in the mill run, his body could have been washed out where it may not have ever been found.
I thanked Terry and my guides for assisting me in the search. May he always rest in peace.
Although this was not a normal day in the life of a spirit medium, it is indicative of what can happen in the spur of the moment. I consider myself truly blessed to have unfolded this gift of mediumship to assist those in spirit.

That was intense. I can’t imagine how you felt at the time.
Thank you for this very personal insight into your experience Melissa. It is such a responsibility to do the right thing in the moment and you were able to give that comfort to the family when they needed it most. I know it's not always easy to make the right call, it's an inner knowing of what you are called to do. A blessed gift.
