There is an ego, and then there is an Ego. Which one are you allowing to guide you? Many of us listen to the Ego as if it were our spirit guide. It is merely a retention mechanism to hold self-identity.
Hey there! It’s Melissa. Welcome to A Mystic’s Journal.
Every Tuesday, I share practical tips and insights for psychic/mediums and all the mystics out there.

Does the Ego/Self Identity Limit Your Enlightenment?
Ego: ego refers to a person's sense of self-importance or pride. In psychological terms, Freud views the ego as the part of the personality that mediates between the id (primitive instincts) and the outside world, operating according to the reality principle. It regulates self-identity.
The ego’s primary goal is to maintain the identity we have assembled throughout our lives. This identity consists of thoughts, emotions, our accumulated past experiences, achievements, and failures.
It is important for the ego to maintain these familiar elements. It helps sustain our self-identity, providing a sense of security and stability.
It may feel threatened when we engage in spiritual awakening, since that would change its self-image. It may actually seem like spiritual awakening will cause the personality to destruct.
When realizing that a spiritual journey could be recognized as the identity, it could require confrontation for the inner challenges associated with surrendering the self-image. Attachment to the self-image and past stories also creates significant obstacles on the spiritual path. These attachments and fears generate deep subconscious resistances, which, though difficult to identify, severely limit spiritual growth.
The ego’s defense system may get stronger when we open to deeper spiritual truths. And will try to protect the ego identity with the security associated with it.
While moving forward on the spiritual path, realize you will need to be decisive in moving through this deeply rooted resistance. Allow the ego to take care of other important things and you can move into an inner spiritual freedom.
How to Recognize the Defense Systems Built by the Ego
Sit Quietly in Contemplation
Find a calm, undisturbed place where you can comfortably sit or lie down.
Position yourself so that your body feels relaxed and comfortable, then close your eyes.
Begin to breathe deeply and slowly, focusing on the natural flow of your breath.
Observe as you breathe in tranquility with every inhalation and release tension within you with each exhalation.
Allow your mind to gradually become calm and peaceful.
Then Use Deeper Self-Inquiry with Questions:
Begin to explore these feelings and the situation more deeply using the following questions:
Why do I feel threatened or uncertain in this situation?
What specific things am I afraid of if I were to make a change?
What am I most fearful of?
How does this fear connect to my self-image?
Allow these questions to naturally unfold emotional and mental content that you have previously avoided or suppressed unconsciously.
Next, consciously examine how your ego attempts to maintain your familiar comfort zone.
The ego often holds us back from change due to fear, using uncertainty as a form of self-protection.
Breathe deeply and consciously affirm to yourself:
“I accept this feeling, I understand why it’s arising within me, and I am ready to release it.”
As you slowly exhale, visualize this emotional burden moving further away from you with each breath.
Now you are able to open the way to deeper spiritual realizations and authentic inner freedom.
So naturally, the part of us that tries to keep things level and balanced will balk and refuse to comply.
Redirecting the Ego - you can move unencumbered into a new metaphysical area.

Take a moment to read Michelle’s article along with a video of Wayne Dyer reading a meditation by U. S. Andersen (Three Magic Words). I mention this book often and I know how powerful the meditations are in his book. Thanks Michelle!
Take some time to filter out the Ego and ego in your life. If you are pursuing a spiritual enrichment of any kind, then it will matter what you do. Don’t let it get in the way of your enlightenment. ✳️
