As above so below, as within so without, as the universe so the soul.
~Hermes Trismegistus
Several years ago, when I was teaching an evening psychic development class, I was asked a very specific question. It was asked of me before class by a woman I’d known for at least 10 years at the time. She prefaced the question by saying, that if I felt it was appropriate could I address it later that evening. (Yes, Lynne, you know who you are, thank you for the complicated question.)
She stopped me on our way down the stairs to the basement of the bookstore I was teaching at. She pulled me aside and was rather serious. She mentioned that she and some friends had thought about this topic on occasion and wondered what I had to say about it. But she insisted that I’m only to talk about it in class if it did not interfere with what I had already planned.
The Queston: If we, as spiritual folks, are always striving to ascend into higher realms (dimensions), then why do we have to ground ourselves to meditate?
(This is me, summoning the divine answer to a provocative question. Of course, I already knew the answer, but had to take time to organize it so everyone would follow me as I detailed it.)
The Answer: During most of my years teaching and providing workshops in metaphysical and spiritual development, I always stressed grounding before moving into meditation or any otherworldly pursuit. I always explained it as being the best way to ‘keep your feet on the ground’, so to speak. To be conscious of your surroundings, know where you are and where you are going as it pertains to moving through the Spirit Realm.
My husband Charles always used the phrase: being cool. Most folks think that being cool as a way of strutting your stuff, acting big and showing off. But the true meaning is much deeper. He used the idea of going into a bar and sitting at a table. You might be talking with friends, laughing and having a good time. But if you were cool, you also were aware of everything else that was going on in other conversations, who was coming into the establishment and who was going out and the climate/atmosphere of the whole situation. You would know if there was something dangerous about to happen. You would know when to leave quickly or if it was safe to stay.
Putting that understanding into moving through the Spirit Realm during development meditations, you would be aware of lower entities that were trying to suck your energy, or spirit personalities that were trying to trick you into believing they were teachers or healers. You would also know if any humans you were around were the right kind to associate with.
I want to deepen the aspect of being grounded. I have the understanding that we humans agreed to come to the third dimension to experience it as a human being. Spirit beings are not able to see, feel and recognize the Earth Plane the same way they could as a human. So, the agreement is a special one; one that deserves respect and guts. No one said it was a piece of cake to life the life of a human, but we made the agreement.
My rhetorical question in response to the original one is: Why would we want to (or need to) ascend into another dimension when we are not finished existing in this one? We’re here for experience that cannot be gleaned in any other way.
I agree we must constantly strive to raise our vibrations not only to help ourselves, but to hold the Universe together. There are many things going on in other dimensions or parallel universes and we must lend our assistance in any way possible. But the only way we could end up in another dimension would be after passing from this plane and incarnating into another.
(At this time, there has been talk of humans sliding into parallel universes, not knowing how to get back. After I do some serious research, I hope to expand on this idea. There are plenty of beliefs that there is war or battle going on in other dimensions too. It influences what happens here. That thought only makes me believe harder that we must raise our vibrations the best we can - and become cool in our spiritual growth.)
The final thought I will leave here is that you need to be tethered to the Earth at this time in your existence. It allows you to stay connected to your human home, but also allows you to experience other worlds.
Thank you for explaining this. Many of us wonder these questions but are afraid to ask.
