Have you ever gone on a paranormal investigation? Was it scary? Or did you feel like it was hyped up to get you excited? Did you feel there was a resolve at the end?
If you go into an investigation looking for a ghost, you will create the scenario of finding a ghost. But if you go into an investigation open-minded you will give you the opportunity to see the bigger picture.
In this journal, I’ll be sharing information that will set some things in your mind - perhaps to help understand results of ghost hunters, and why I am skeptical of paranormal investigators (not ghosts and earthbound spirits).
Don’t get me wrong. I am a spiritual medium. I understand and understand communication with those who have transitioned. I also understand how and why spirits become earthbound. So I am looking at both sides of the coin.
So, I am going to be ranting in this Journal. As I’ve said before, “Sorry - not sorry.” Try as I may to be ‘rant-ful’ (is that a word?), I still come off as a sweet elderly lady with a soft, but squeaky voice. So you can recognize it, I will be going on, and on, and on. That is my way to rant.
I’ll try to list some of the instruments that are used to detect paranormal activity. And hopefully I’ll match it to spiritual (metaphysical) concepts that I would use instead.
The most well-known and recognizable instrument would be EMF meter.
Electro-Magnetic Fields can be generated by AC or DC currents. An EMF meter can measure AC electromagnetic fields, which are usually emitted from man-made sources such as electrical wiring, while magnetometers measure DC fields, which occur naturally in Earth's geomagnetic field and are emitted from other sources where direct current is present.
++ So… are ghosts or spirits AC or DC? According to the description, the meter measures either electrical wiring or the Earth’s magnetic field. To me that does not equate to being a paranormal event. Just the meaning of paranormal is ‘beyond normal’. An EMF meter does not register any kind of ghostly presence.
DUAL SWEEP SPIRIT BOX will help you detect an energy, I guess. the description seemed rather confusing.
You can read a description on this sales page: P-SB11 - Dual Sweep Spirit Box w Hot Cold ATDD | Ghost OutletP-SB11 - Dual Sweep Spirit Box w Hot Cold ATDD | Ghost Outlet
++ This instrument is probably very useful, if you cannot ‘feel’ or ‘sense’ a spirit presence. But if you have studied and practiced spirit communication, as I have, you would immediately know there is a presence when you enter an establishment. So, the Spirit Box is just a redundant element.
Both handheld and static digital video cameras, including thermographic and night vision cameras, night vision goggles. These instruments are kind of self-explanatory, I guess. You use them at night.
++It seems like one of the biggest mistakes investigators make is going into the investigation with the lights off. Why not go in the daytime? Ghosts are available in daylight same as at night. It’s spookier and sensational.
Electronic voice phenomena (EVP) are sounds found on electronic recordings that are interpreted as spirit voices. Parapsychologist Konstantīns Raudive, who popularized the idea in the 1970s, described EVP as typically brief, usually the length of a word or short phrase.
++If you have a psychic medium that is practiced in verbal phenomena, they can ‘hear’ either physically or mentally communication from a spirit. And the words are coherent and in sentences that make sense. Why rely on one sketchy word that had to be replayed from a recorder?
This all leads to the idea of paranormal investigating as pseudoscience. Many skeptical investigators say that ghost hunters are relying on the term ‘science’. And that their instruments are scientific. That is questionable.
Pseudoscience consists of statements, beliefs, or practices that claim to be both scientific and factual but are incompatible with the scientific method. Pseudoscience is often characterized by contradictory, exaggerated or unfalsifiable claims.
These practices (below) were made in the context of educating the public about questionable or potentially fraudulent or dangerous claims and practices—efforts to define the nature of science, or humorous parodies of poor scientific reasoning.
Topics: ancient astronauts, astrology, Bermuda triangle, hollow earth, feng shui, ley lines, every alternative healing technique you can think of - yes, even Reiki, all paranormal and ufology theories, channeling, the aura, human energy field, meditation, astronomy, many religious beliefs, and of course, ghost hunting.
Brian Regal is an associate professor of the history of science at Kean University in New Jersey. He’s the author of an encyclopedia of pseudoscience and described ghost hunting as "an unorganized exercise in futility".
— Now, I would not go this far! I believe there is good evidence to prove some paranormal investigations are legitimate. But sadly, there are many that are spoofs and charlatans. This gives the positive practice a shady cover.
Rant over.
