Communicating with Spirits
How to recognize connecting with the Spirit Realm.
The first few times this sort of thing happened, I dismissed it as imagination, not a true spirit connection. However, I slowly realized that I have always received information from Spirit. Imagination and creative visualization are the same thing. This is how Spirit can present messages – through inner vision.
Hey there! It’s Melissa. Welcome to A Mystic’s Journal.
Every Tuesday, I share practical tips and insights for psychic/mediums and all the mystics out there. Here’s what you might have recently missed:

Unfolding Your Mediumship Skills
Over several months of sitting in my first unfoldment class, I realized I had already known how to commune with spirit. As I sat in class one evening, an image flowed through my mind. I saw a soft breezy meadow. The grass was high. An old milk cow grazed, and two small children ran toward it. They were playing but had a purpose in running toward the cow. I thought it was a daydream.
When the meditation was over, our minister asked us all to describe anything we heard, saw, or felt. We took turns. When it was my turn, I talked about a cold chill I experienced. I saw whirling blue and yellow colors. That was all. I didn’t mention the daydream.
“You didn’t see anything else?” he asked. “No” was my answer. Then I remembered the daydream.
“Well, I did see a cow in a meadow…” and I continued to describe the scene. As it turned out, the minister and his sister used to run out to the meadow to bring in the old cow their family owned. It was their job when they were young.
During the meditation, I connected with the minister’s vibration. His sister, who had passed away years before, was able to bring me an image of their childhood together. It was an event that was dear to her heart, and something he would be able to recognize immediately as confirmation of her presence. She was showing it to me in a daydream state. As I connected with the minister’s vibrations, my guides were orchestrating the connection (during the alignment process) with the spirit of his sister. The best way for me to receive it was for my guides to show it as a memory, similar to imagination.
The first few times this sort of thing happened, I dismissed it as imagination, not a true spirit connection. However, I slowly realized that I have always received information from Spirit. Imagination and creative visualization is the same thing. This is how Spirit can present messages – through inner vision.
On another occasion, I talked about an older man I saw with another member of the class. I told every detail, including a very large nose, like that of Jimmy Durante (an entertainer from the 1950s). I actually saw Jimmy Durante in my image. The best way for my guides to show me what they meant was to show me a figure in my memory that my psychic eye, or inner vision, could present.
She said it was her father, in spirit.
Finally, I got it: A message from Spirit is a thought appearing in the mind’s eye. It seems like imagination. Sometimes it comes when you ask. Sometimes it comes when you least expect it.
The main thing is to be aware. Test what you think is information from Spirit. You will know if it is your thought or that of Spirit. If you doubt the information and believe it could only be your own thoughts, it probably is. If the information confirms something you already know but may add extra wisdom, and comes in a smooth and unencumbered way, it is directed by your guides from Spirit.
Slowly but surely, I kept progressing. After much more training within the class, I started presenting spirit messages during the message service at church. Every last Sunday of the month all the students had a chance to practice sharing messages with the congregation.
I was working with psychometry, holding an object that belonged to someone. After becoming sensitive enough, it is possible to feel or sense certain things about the owner or where the object had been.
The usher went through the congregation with a basket to collect watches, keys, and other objects from willing participants. I stood behind the lectern, with the basket in front of me. I took a cross out of the basket and held it up. A man in the back of the church recognized it by holding up his hand. I closed my eyes and held the cross in my hands. Immediately I saw an airplane and said so.
He said, “Yes, that’s right.”
I elaborated. “Not just an airplane, but a biplane, with layered wings.”
He said, “Yes, I know what you’re talking about.”
I was so ecstatic that I almost jumped up and down. I was so proud of myself. I assumed that was all I was going to get, so I went on to the next object. I continued quickly with small visions of things or words or colors. Soon it was time for the next student to practice, so I sat down.
Later that day, I had time to reflect on the message service, and how well it went. Then, like a toy boat that has broken loose from the river moss, more information came rushing through about the biplane.
The man I had connected to with the cross was looking for an answer concerning the operation of the plane. What he was looking for was behind the instrument panel. I hadn’t given spirit a chance to relay the information to him. I was too concerned with the excitement of receiving the message. I had blocked the rest of the information from coming through. I had not let it flow.
This illustrates what I’ve stated before about the sensationalism of mediumship. Most people of the world need more detailed information about their lives and their circumstances. However, the years of needing evidence are rapidly closing. The evidence that the spirit world exists is already established. Now we need spiritual leaders to take everyone a step forward in the evolution of mankind. It’s time to open our hearts and look for more.
My clients are now looking for their life path. Many are quitting their mundane jobs and dedicating themselves to working with humanity. They already know their loved ones are alright. They are past eating milk toast. They need more substantial food for their souls. Our consultations and counseling sessions are better used to uplift and empower.
Do not assume your client only wants to be entertained or amazed. Give them the full measure of the connection you hold for them.
The man I gave the message to was a visitor to the church, and I had no way of getting in touch with him to share the rest of the message. I learned a lot that day. NEVER let ego get in your way.
There is no room for ego in spiritual endeavors. It only gets in the way and blocks you from the full truth. It does not help anyone. If you are spiritually given a communication, don’t accept it as the entire message. Ask if there is more! More information will be given, if it is needed. Sometimes the confirmation of an object, like the biplane, is the only important thing. But sometimes, the object leads to more meaningful information.
As the years of being a student medium went by, I realized I had been doing this all my life. I was given all kinds of information in my younger years (as you also may have experienced), but thought it was just imagination. It took the unfoldment classes to give me a chance to recognize this gift and learn how to use it properly.
That’s why I feel it is so important to work and study in a development or unfoldment class. Spend time with others who are studying. Learn from each other. The time spent will give you plenty of practice, and experience. You can only grow your abilities through the experience of this gift.
It is my pleasure to serve you with my mystical understanding, and debunking spoof-energies. I hope to expand my reach and ask you to assist me in that endeavor. Please consider sharing this post with a friend and click the Like Button at the end of the post.

Oh, that is so cool! I as a medium have learned over the years never ever ever ever to dismiss any visuals or senses that I get during a session. They all means something.
Thanks for the Restack, Terri!
